Once Upon the Time

in Hollywood

The original Sunset Grill opened in 1957 and immediately became popular in Hollywood for its’ fine burgers and friendly service. The original owner, Joe Froelich, emigrated from Vienna with his family.  He was referred to as “The old man from the old world” in Don Henley's famous song about the restaurant “Down at the Sunset Grill.”

For a while, members of Guns N’ Roses lived and rehearsed behind the building and were regulars of the then-cultic hangout spot. Over the past 62 years, numerous famous musicians passed through the doors and it’s been consistently popular with the locals.

Once upon a time there were old wrecked Dodges parked alongside the newest Mercedes and Cadillacs because everyone wanted to be a part of the legendary eatery.

In 1999, Joe sold the business, they destroyed the old establishment and built a new one, a popular burger joint it remained right next door to the Hollywood Guitar Center.

When the new management took over in August 2019, they decided to restore the Sunset Grill to its original ambiance with a modern style.

The profile remains the same: Classic American cuisine made with the highest quality foods at affordable prices. The lower level is over the counter service and the upper level is an indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar.

In addition to the friendly and relaxed service, great food and prices, a serious interior design makeover with old relics creates the perfect original Hollywood atmosphere.

Anyone who wishes to take a breath of fresh old school Hollywood air and to be part of an age when dreams were still real will find what they are looking for at the Sunset Grill.  The perfect place for parties, hanging out with friends or even for the perfect date.

The ‘New’ Sunset Grill is ideal for star gazing and the place where people still share the same bar stools with celebrities. Once upon a time… in Hollywood!
